Each new year, we are inundated with lists. Top 10 news events. movies, songs, games and TV shows of the year. Top 10 most beautiful left-handed actors who have moles and wear beards. Well, this year Facebook got in on the act, informing me I have my own list. Here are a few of my top-rated online postings. On August 28, I wrote, “Congratulations to Ramona! 31 years married to me. What a blessing I have been!” Some called me delusional, others congratulated me on my humility.
One day I wrote, “Hello friends. I haven’t wanted to do this, but it seems that Facebook is displaying all of your credit card numbers, but not your PIN numbers. Please send them to me immediately. Thank you.” Sadly, two people thought I was serious. Others didn’t get this joke: “I’m reading a book about anti-gravity. I can’t put it down.” Get it? Come on. One day a deep thought hit me. Yes, I have those. So I wrote: “Today is the oldest I’ve ever been and the youngest I shall ever be.” In light of that fact, here’s a top five list. Five of my favourite Bible verses to post on our fridges or commit to memory. Wherever you’ve been, whatever you face, I believe these words will bring joy to life this year.
#5. 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”
#4. Jeremiah 29:11 “‘For I know the plans I have for you,'” says the LORD. “‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.'”
#3. is from Psalm 34:18-19 “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. The righteous person faces many troubles, but the LORD comes to the rescue each time.”
#2. Isaiah 40:31 “Those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”
#1. Lamentations 3:22-24 “The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, ‘The LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!'”
Why don’t I end with my top Facebook posting of the year. It wasn’t goofy at all. Written in December, it accompanied a picture of my parents who have passed away. I wrote, “70 years ago today Mom and Dad said, ‘I do,’ and they did. Thanks!” They loved God and they loved people. I think that’s the key to joy this year.
